To ensure a comfortable and economical building, heating and ventilation (HVAC) systems are used to bring in fresh air and water. These can weigh tones and require restraining to ensure safety. In the case of the Jack Mann Auditorium, large Air Handler Units, weighing over 1000 kgs each, needed the support of a structural steel frame, which Storm Engineering designed, calculating seismic forces and working around service accessibility requirements. The water chiller unit similarly required reinforcing, weighing in at more than 6000 kgs! We designed and supplied project-specific seismic snubber plates, fitting snugly in around surrounding pipework and buffer tanks.
The Jack Mann refurbishment project provided technical challenges for Storm Engineering. We more than met them, delivering custom seismic design solutions and working alongside installers to achieve a durable, high-quality installation.
